The North Gwinnett Co-Op

What a year it has been here at the Co-Op! Let me share some service numbers with you so you can know how your support is working here in our own community.

Our total goods and services in 2009 was to more than 16,300 people (up from 14,233 in 2008). That is lights, heat, water, medication, food & clothing. We had 483 NEW Families apply for assistance this past year and that was up from 398 new families in 2008. These numbers tell us that our services are still so very important to our community, AND, we do it all, because you choose to GIVE. THANK YOU!

We had over 320 families signed up for our Holiday Meal Program and your gift cards for turkeys/hams flooded in, so much so, that we have enough for next Thanksgiving!!

First Baptist Buford has come on board with us here at the co-op and Level Creek UMC is stepping up support and we welcome both Churches!! Hudgens Family Foundation gifted us $25,000.00 in December which was a huge blessing as it allows us to go beyond our monthly utility budget to help pay lights, heat, water during these difficult winter months.

We have started our Free Tutoring Program on Monday nights here at the Co-Op. One of our UGA Student volunteers is heading up the program where a child brings in their homework and we help with math, reading or whatever the child needs that day. We have about 2-4 Tutors here and take kids first come, first served on a half hour schedule. If no one is waiting, we can help for a longer period of time………it is awesome that we can provide this kind of help for our kids to give them an extra boost at school without taxing the strained monthly budgets of the parents.

Ways for you to continue your help: City of Buford utility bills have a place on the front of the bill where you can add a couple of dollars to your payment and that amount goes to an account for the Co-Op to use against City of Buford utility bills. Donate your used clothing and household items for use in our Thrift Store. Host a food drive!! Please remember that we feed over 270 families per month……the Holiday food collected is almost gone and we need food drives. No amount of food is too small!

Remember, We give because YOU make a choice to Give!

On behalf of our friends and neighbors in need, THANK YOU!

Saint Vincent De Paul Thrift Store

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul operates thrift stores where people in need — and the general public — can shop for low-cost clothing, furniture and household items. The stores also operate as neighborhood distribution centers, where the people we serve can receive much needed items free of charge. Our store sales help fund the programs and services we provide to the homeless and working poor.

Donations of gently used clothing, furniture and household items may be dropped off and a tax receipt will be provided.
